Gutter Grids: Say Goodbye to Leaves
If you have a tree near your roof, regularly clean the gutters to prevent fallen leaves from clogging them. Clogged gutters may cause water to overflow, leading to potential damage. Additionally, wet leaves left in the gutters increase the risk of corrosion.
Cleaning gutters several times a year is essential, though it's not many people's favourite task. Climbing a ladder can be challenging, especially for those who aren’t comfortable with heights.
Make gutter cleaning easier with gutter grids. Made of flexible plastic mesh, these grids work with plastic, copper, titanium-zinc, and aluminium gutters, and they may also fit other materials. They're also suitable for square gutters.
The grid works with all standard types of gutters.
How to Install a Gutter Grid: A Simple Guide
Roll the grid into a narrower cylinder and insert it into the gutter. It will expand to fill the space without needing any additional fixing.
Leaves get caught on the grid and are then blown away by the wind, making them easy to rake up. Water flows through the grid and drains down the gutter.
The grids withstand both low and high temperatures, allowing you to leave them in place all year round. They also have UV protection which prevents damage from sunlight.
Gutter grids were featured in a report by the TV programme Polopatě, which focused on autumn roof and gutter inspections. The material about the grids starts at 01:32. (The programme is in Czech).
Look for gutter grids at your nearest outdoor supply store. If you can't find them, ask the staff. The grids are still relatively new, so some stores might not have them in stock yet. However, if you ask, the staff can order them for you.
Jute and Peat Bags for Crop Protection
At the end of summer and in autumn, it's time to harvest potatoes, carrots, onions, and apples. Stock up early on jute or burlap sacks to store your produce. You can also use these sacks to store firewood.
Jute sacks are made of natural woven fabric and come in various sizes. Below is an overview of the most commonly sold sizes and the approximate quantities they can hold.
Burlap sacks, made of woven plastic strips, are commonly used for storing potatoes.
Winterizing Grasses: Tips for Cold-Weather Care
Ornamental grasses have delicate roots that can be harmed by winter moisture, so it's important not to cut them in autumn. If you do, only the stubble remains, which allows rain or snow to reach the roots.
Instead, bundle the dry grass to protect the roots, and trim it in spring.
Many gardeners use jute strips to tie the bundles, even in winter. This rust-coloured material blends well with the dry grass and adds a nice, visually pleasing touch.
Grasses tied with jute remain decorative even in winter.
Jute for Trees
To protect trees from frost, wrap jute fabric around the trunk. Jute felt is also a good option; it's thicker and provides better insulation to retain heat.
White trunk protectors are another option. They prevent animals from biting the bark and also shield trees from spring frosts, which can be dangerous for trees that have begun to produce sap.
If sap freezes overnight, it can cause the bark to crack. The white colour of the protector reflects the sun's rays, helping to prevent the tree from waking up too early and producing sap prematurely.
It is suggested to use white protectors with a larger maximum trunk diameter so that the trunk can be wrapped in the protector more than once. This provides additional protection against the sun's rays.

Production of Ornamental and Grave Landscaping
Autumn is also the time for creating various ornamental and cemetery bouquets. For these purposes, decorative jute is perfect.
A strip of jute fabric is also great for decorating pots and planters.
